There is an unfortunate education that you receive when you are diagnosed with cancer. You learn about all kinds of things that you wish you never would have. The process begins with getting a port. People have joked about whether it was a USB or a firewire, but it is actually a mutant plastic lump in my chest. I like to think of it more like a gum drop...under my skin. I had this put in on Monday. My surgery was scheduled for early in the morning but after the surgery and my other doctor appointments, it essentially took the entire day. Today, I took the bandage off and saw it for the first time. They use the port to deliver the chemo to a major vein, hoping to prevent damage to smaller veins and skin. They will start the actual injections of the chemotherapy on Tuesday. I will be getting six treatments every three weeks.
Another thing I learned is that because the chemo attacks all fast growing cells (aiming for the cancer cells) it also attacks fast growing good cells, like hair. Which means I'll be saying goodbye to all my hair about two weeks from my first treatment. They told me that my scalp will feel tender and tingly and then I'll go to sleep and when I wake up it will all be on my pillow instead of my head.
So like many things related to this diagnosis, I need to make some decisions. Should I cut my hair beforehand or wait until it leaves on it's own? Should I wear a wig or a mop? Should I get hats or scarves? Or is bald really beautiful? So I'm hoping to get some opinions which I will take into consideration. I visited a few wig shops and narrowed it down to a few choices. Which is the new me?
Leave me a comment with your favorite choice for my new look. They can order the wig in any color so on choice D, look only at the cut. And now, in no particular order.....
Choice A
Choice B
Choice H-Hannah Hair

I like wig D but in the right color. :)
ReplyDeleteBrad votes for wig A, Josh likes wig E, and Liam says you should get Hannah hair. We're not much help because we can offer no consensus. I'm glad you're so brave!
ReplyDeleteChoice A!
ReplyDeleteKevin: Choice A
ReplyDeleteEmily: Choice A
Olivia: B or E
Sam Jr: E
Sara: Hannah hair ! Hannah hair!
Just kidding-I think the color and cut of A looks most like you!
A. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I like A best, but I think you could do A-C. If you want to go short, there was an option Cindy sent me from the first time you guys went out...it was kind of a pixie cut and James and I thought it was super cute on you. Pretty much you are adorable, so you can do whatever you feel like. Love you Mom, we are praying for you! PS, I love that you started a blog! :)
ReplyDeleteHannah & James
D or E!
ReplyDeleteI like A. (((Hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI also like A on you. Our prayers are with you
ReplyDeleteThey're all cute but go red!
ReplyDeleteI vote E first choice and A second choice! Good luck this week at your appointment. I will be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteI vote Hannah Hair in a kickin pink or rocker red...but if that doesn't make the cut, then I would say A and E, but they all look good on you! Prayers, love, thoughts and hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Hannah. A or C look great. You look cute with short hair.
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend....CCCCCCCCCCCCC!!! If you could see my hair right now, then you'd know why I'm voting for CCCCCCC!!. My hair is short and....CURLY! Naturally curly!! I hurt my right shoulder decluttering everything I own, so I can't blow dry my hair anymore. But, this short style is truly liberating--and a heck of a lot easier and faster to style! So, go short!! Love you bunches, and smiled, laughed, and cried reading your post. Keep up the good attitude and watch lots of funny TV and laugh!!! Miss you. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetie,
ReplyDeleteKathleen's right. I whacked my hair off when I broke my wrist and I'll never go back! Think about you everyday and hope you're up to blogging again soon. Hugs.
I like A & D.
ReplyDeleteI'm just now joining this "party", so this will likely not be seen. Nonetheless, my vote is for the mop! OR - you could make a multi-colored yarn wig like the one you made for Mark once, long ago. In fact, you BOTH could use one. Much love to you and yours! :)
